Set in Silver … Behind the Lens

Our “Set in Silver … Behind the Lens” Family Fun event was our busiest yet, with 20 children coming to the University Library to make their own photograph albums, inspired by the Victorian camera on display in the “Set in Silver” exhibition.

First of all, the children made fake moustaches and posed for their photographs to be taken, so that they could stick the photographs “behind the lens” in the front of their albums.  The inspiration for the Victorian-style portraits came from a montage made by George Washington Wilson.

Then the children made their albums, sewing the leaves together and decorating them.

Some of the children took the opportunity to come up with some ingenious designs.

Our next Family Fun session will be on Saturday 21st April from 1pm-4pm, when we will be creating images using a similar photographic technique to the ones in the exhibition.  It’s a drop-in session and we’ll be in the Events Area behind the gallery.  We hope you can join us!

Look out for our ‘how to‘ on making a photograph album, coming soon.
