Summer is almost here

With the lovely weather we’ve been having in Aberdeen over the last few weeks our thoughts have turned to the summer holidays and all the fun events coming up inspired by our Wanderlust exhibition.

As with last year it’ll be a busy, full summer for us here at Special Collections Learning. Our Family Fun workshops will run every Wednesday afternoon and will be full of crafts and storytelling inspired by the amazing destinations of our Wanderlust explorers and travellers. We will be stowing away to the Arctic like David Cardno, discovering the Amazon Rainforest like James Traill, creating tourist guides for destinations closer to home and lots more.

Along with the Family Fun programme we are working with King’s Museum to run the “Global Explorers” Summer School in the first two weeks on the school holidays for 7-11 year olds. During the three morning summer school participants join a team of fellow explorers at the Special Collections Centre and go on a journey of discovery to King’s Museum. The Summer School will culminate in a mini-exhibition created by participants. We are really looking forward to it! Booking opens on Monday 10th June. If you’re interested in booking a place, contact us at scc.learning@abdn.ac.uk or phone (01224) 273047 or (01224) 273048. There are only limited places available so best get in touch soon.

But wait, we’re getting ahead of ourselves! Before all of this summer fun we have our Across the Map Family Fun on Saturday 15th June. It will be our last Saturday event until after the summer so be sure to come along and make maps with us.

See the posters below for details of the Summer School and Family Fun events (click on them to enlarge them). We hope to see you over the summer!
