25th October 2016 – Tuning In: Sound Digitisation and Digital Preservation Workshop
A focus day event held at The Sir Duncan Rice Library as part of the Connecting Scotland’s Sounds project was a resounding success and welcomed members from various institutions across Scotland.
The morning session, led by Will Prentice, Head of Technical Services (Sound & Vision) at the British Library, focused on planning for digitisation and how to navigate the options available while the afternoon workshop addressed the issue of digital sound preservation and included a presentation from Sharon McMeekin from the Digital Preservation Coalition. Following that were case studies presented by Gregor Marks, B.B.C. Scotland Digital Library Archive Manager and also Special Collection’s Deputy Archivist Andrew MacGregor.
The Connecting Scotland’s Sounds project, supported by the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation, aims to champion the preservation and sharing of Scotland’s sound heritage. The project’s training programme for sound archivists and engagement activities for a range of audiences run from summer 2016 to summer 2017.
