6th June 2017 – Conference of European University Chaplains (CEUC)
Special Collections delivered an hour-long workshop as part of the programme for the Conference of European University Chaplains held at Aberdeen from the 5th-9th June. The afternoon workshop hosted by Keith O’Sullivan, Senior Rare Books Librarian, Andrew MacGregor, Deputy Archivist and Jane Pirie, Rare Books Cataloguer on the 6th June showcased the rich and diverse religious and theological holdings in the University’s special collections, from devotional texts to personal and estate papers. Over the course of over 500 years, the University has acquired an impressive collection of books, manuscripts and archives that reflect all faiths, and none. Led by Reverend Dr Donald MacEwan, University Chaplain of St Andrews and an Aberdeen graduate, the attendees were able to view a display of items from the Scottish Catholic Archives, the library of St Mary’s College at Blairs and examples from our fine collections of Hebraica and Judaica, and humanism.
